CamDodge Map · Last updated October 4, 2026
The short version
CamDodge Map has no accounts, asks for no personal information, and does not track where you are or where you've been. Your location never leaves your device except for a single, optional map-centering fix that is used once and immediately discarded.
Who we are
CamDodge Map (camdodge.app) is operated by Zachary McGuinness, trading as CamDodge ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy, meaning we decide why and how it is processed.
Location data
The app only uses your device location to center the map and, if you turn on live tracking, to show your position and route you around cameras. Your GPS coordinates are processed on your device and are never stored on our servers, never logged, and never linked to you.
The "Lock Camera to Car" feature and the location prompt are entirely optional — the map works fine if you decline.
Camera reports
When you tap the map to report a camera, we store only the camera's coordinates, the report's status, and the time it was made. Reports are anonymous — no name, email, or account is attached.
To stop spam and abuse, each report records the network address it came from. This is stored securely, is not visible to other users, is never published, and is used only for rate limiting (a small number of reports per hour) and duplicate detection.
Traffic analytics
We collect basic, anonymous visit statistics — page views, device type, and approximate country — so we know which areas need better camera coverage. These statistics do not identify individual visitors.
Camera data sources
Most cameras on the map are imported from OpenStreetMap, a public, community-maintained map of the world. The remainder are anonymous reports from users like you, which are marked as community-unverified until confirmed.
Map imagery and roads © OpenStreetMap contributors (openstreetmap.org/copyright). Address search and routing use public OpenStreetMap-based services. Your searches and route points are relayed through our server, so those services receive only the search text or coordinates — never your IP address, device, or browser details. We do not store or log these searches or routes.
Tips and payments
Optional tips are sold and processed by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record. When you tip, Paddle collects your name, email, billing details, and payment information to complete the sale, handle tax compliance, invoicing, and refunds. We receive only basic transaction details (amount, date, and the email used) and never see your full card details. Paddle's handling is described in its privacy notice at paddle.com/legal/privacy.
Purposes and legal basis
Providing the map, routing, and camera reports: performance of our service to you (contract). Spam prevention via network addresses and anonymous analytics: our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and improving it. Tip transactions: performance of the sale (contract) and our legal obligations for tax and accounting records. Optional location access: your consent, which you can withdraw anytime in your device settings.
Who we share data with
Service providers that host and run the app (cloud hosting, database, and analytics). Paddle.com, as Merchant of Record, for selling tips, payments, tax compliance, and invoicing. Professional advisers such as legal and accounting advisers when needed. Authorities where required by law. We never sell personal data.
Data retention
Network addresses attached to camera reports are kept only as long as needed for rate limiting and abuse prevention, and no longer than 90 days. Anonymous analytics are kept in aggregate form. Transaction records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires (typically up to 7 years). When data is no longer needed it is deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent at any time. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us with any request and we will respond within one month.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted database access controls, and limiting who can see stored network addresses.
Cookies and local storage
We use only essential browser storage needed for the app to work (such as cached map data for offline use and admin sign-in). We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. You can clear this storage anytime in your browser settings.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and our service providers may process data in the US and other countries. Where data from the UK or EEA is transferred, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses offered by our providers.
Data we never collect
No accounts or sign-ups for using the map. No names, emails, or phone numbers. No browsing history. No advertising or advertising trackers. No selling of data.
